BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Lima is during the dry season, mostly between June and August. The weather is especially wet from December to April.

ORIENTATION

The city is formed by several neighbourhoods. The best way to visit each of them is walking, but to move between them, it’s better to travel by taxi or bus.

Centro in the north, is located south of the Rimac River, and has the central squares like Plaza Mayor and Plaza San Martin, as well has many churches, colonial architecture buildings and shopping streets.

To the south-west is located Pueblo Libre where the Antropological and Larco Herrera Museums are to be found. Further south is Miraflores, a glamorous touristy neighbourhood with fine restaurants, nightclubs and boutique hotels.

HOW TO GET THERE

Jorge Chavez International Airport is located 16km (10 miles) northwest of Lima and is the international gateway to Peru.

Taxi is the easiest way to get to the city centre (journey time - 30 minutes to an hour). The safest and cheapest way is to order an official taxi from the desk outside arrivals.

El Urbanito runs an airport shuttle service, with stops at various hotels in the city. Local buses also run between the airport and the city centre, but can take up to two hours.

TRAVELLING AROUND

The cheapest way to get around the city is by bus, microbus or a collective minibus.

Taxis can be easily hailed from the street but has they don't have meters, it’s better for you to negotiate the fare before you get in.
