Without doubt, Puerto Montt is the gateway to Patagonia, by land, sea or air. Chilean Patagonia may be reached by the southern trail - whose Zero milestone is Puerto Montt´s Town Square - also by sea, in ferries which sail for Puerto Chacabuco, or by plane, from El Tepual airport to Balmaceda.
Whichever the transport means to be used, they all leave Puerto Montt. This city is also the starting point for reaching the mythical Island of Chiloé.
Puerto Montt is located on the northern shore of the Reloncavi Gulf and it was founded by Vicente Perez Rosales on February 12, 1853. Its population is close to 230.000 inhabitants.
As a touristic attraction, the city offers many interesting places to visit: outlooks parks, museums, forests, beaches, national parks, markets.
Our Mayors had enhanced the city´s accessability by repairing street, sidewalks and green areas; repairing museums and installing a complex vigilance system for protecting the city´s inhabitants and visitors.
Puerto Montt is the sum of many efforts and the result of dreams, hopes and expectations of those who chose these southern lands to erect a city that could offer them a better life.
Puerto Montt is a relatively young city that has significantly developed in a short period of time, a process that has been rarely seen in other Chilean cities.
