Patagonia is an immense territory in the south of Argentina bordered in the north by the Cuyo and Pampas regions, in the south and west by Chile and in the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
The Argentine Patagonia with its inhabitants, overwhelming landscapes and amazing ancestral culture will take you to a journey to the remote southern extreme of the world.

ORIENTATION
Reaching the southern parts of Chile and Argentina, Patagonia is a vast land with temperate jungles, glaciers, lakes, volcanoes, and infinite plains. Argentinean Patagonia can be divided into: The Lake Region, Atlantic Patagonia, Southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Each of these destinations is completely unique and really worth going.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Patagonia is cool in the summer, cold in the winter and has short fall and spring. The best time to travel is probably between September and May, because the temperatures are softer.
HOW TO GET THERE
The best way to get to Patagonia is to fly to Buenos Aires (BUE) or Santiago de Chile (SCL).
From Buenos Aires you can fly to El Calafate or Ushuaia (Southern Patagonia) or to San Carlos de Bariloche (Northern Patagonia).
From Santiago de Chile you can fly to Punta Arenas (Southern Patagonia), to Balmaceda, Coihayque (Central Patagonia), to Temuco (Northern Patagonia) or Puerto Montt (Lake District).
For Domestic flights within Argentina and Chile you can fly with LAN.
There are also many destinations with regular bus connections between them.
TRAVELLING AROUND
Cars and 4WD vehicles can be rented in all major towns.
Long-distance buses are unexpectedly comfortable. Argentine-registered buses usually drive only to the border, where passengers change to a Chilean-registered bus for the rest of the journey (Taqsa connects most of the main cities).
TRAVEL TIPS
A permanent problem with travelling in Argentine Patagonia is the non-existence of topographical maps. To get a local guide is possibly the best and safest option. For road trips, maps produced by the Argentine Automobile Club can be found in bookstores, newspaper kiosks, and service stations in major towns.
