Rabat is the capital of Morocco, located on the Atlantic Ocean by the river Bou Regreg. On the opposite bank of the river lies Salé. Rabat is a very cosmopolitan city, with elegant, green boulevards and imposing buildings.

REASONS TO GO

Rabat is the fourth of the Imperial cities

The Mausoleum of King Mohamed V

An exotic mixture of the European and the Islam worlds

BEST TIME TO GO

Rabat is a good city to visit at any time of the year. However, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times, when days are warm and nights are not too cold.

As Morocco is an Islamic country, the month of Ramadan is probably not the best time to go, as during this time, opening hours completely change.

ORIENTATION

The city’s highlights are rich and diverse. Some of the most important attractions are the ruins of the Kasbah (citadel), the Mausoleum of King Mohamed V, the many fresh and colourful gardens sprinkled all over the city and the several small museums.

HOW TO GET THERE

By Train

Rabat is well served by train and has regular connections to most places, like Marrakesh, Fez and Casablanca. There are two stations in Rabat - Centre Ville (Medina) and Agdal.

By Bus

It's possible and easy to catch a bus from almost any city in the country to Rabat.

By Plane

The Rabat International Airport is located in the close town of Salé and has limited international connections. It is more usual to fly to Casablanca and then transfer to Rabat by train or bus.

TRAVELLING AROUND

The best way to move around the city is by Petit Taxi or on foot.
